About our forthcoming book The Apparition Trail ... this book is sure to be a hit. Written by Wizards of the Coast gaming queen Lisa Smedman (for details about Lisa, click here)

The Apparition Trail takes you back in time to a Canada that might have been - a land filled with magic with everything from perpetual motion machines to an attempt by one of the characters to remove the settlers and increase the buffalo population in a most unique way. Nope, I am not telling you anything more about it - you will need to read the first chapter, get hooked and pre order your book! :-)

Put May 27th on your date book and plan to join us at the Memorial Park Library (1221 2 Street SW, Calgary)for the release party of Even the Stones, featuring Calgary's own Marie Jakober.

KA Bedford sends his greetings from Australia, and has asked me to say thank you. His ratings on amazon.com are increasing at a rapid rate due to you! Adrian will be in Canada and the U.S. later this summer - we are looking forward to giving him a warm welcome.

I just wanted to thank all of you who have been visiting this site, reading the MMU and bringing your friends to the site.

Have a stonking week as Adrian (Orbital Burn) would say (that translates roughly, to have an excellent week) and I will talk to you on Monday.

Orbital Burn now available

Orbital Burn by K. A. Bedford was released in North America on February 29th, 2004.

Dreams of the Sea now released

Dreams of the Sea by Elisabeth Vonarburg was released in North America on February 29th, 2004.

As NASA’s Martian explorer makes tracks, the nation turns to dreaming of a bright new future and renewed hope for discovery, exploration, and the possibility of the conquest of space. And why not? Human beings have always had the wonderful ability to dream beyond everyday life.

Dreams have shaped our view of the past, reshaped our thinking of the future, and lead to a better understanding of the world in which we live.

But:
  • What if the ability to dream extended beyond our reality?
  • What if Alien dreamers existed outside of our universe?
    and
  • What if they were dreaming of us!

Three decades ago, French Canadian author, Élisabeth Vonarburg’s future was reshaped when she experienced what she refers to as “The Big Meaningful Dream” - a dream which caused her to ponder those very same questions for more than 35 years. Now, Ms. Vonarburg is ready to share her findings, the results of the explorations and realizations of her own innermost thoughts and dreams!

Translated from French, Ms. Vonarburg’s novel, DREAMS OF THE SEA, takes the reader on a journey - from Earth, into space, through time and beyond reality.

Set in the vibrant imagery of dreamtime, DREAMS OF THE SEA is a speculative fiction novel that vividly describes why Earth colonists travel to the planet Tyranaël, the perils and challenges which face them once they arrive, and how the seemingly insignificant events which surround them create unpredictable and devastating consequences.

These dreams appear to be familiar, like our own, but they are not! Vonarburg enables the readers to look, almost voyeuristically, into the dreams of the aliens who are dreaming of us! Click here to read more.

  • EDGE buys Tesseract Books

EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing, winner of both the Alberta Emerging Publisher of the Year Award and the Independent Publisher Book Award for first book, “The Black Chalice” by Marie Jakober, has announced its acquisition of Tesseract Books Ltd, Canada’s premiere publisher of speculative fiction. The Tesseract imprint has been in use since 1985, and now has more than 50 editions in print.

The acquisition of Tesseract Books from the Books Collective was hinted at during the 61st World Science Fiction Convention to Science Fiction and Fantasy aficionados from around the world, with great response from the SF community.

The official announcement was made at EDGE's Calgary, Alberta office. Brian Hades, president of EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing said, “It’s the complete opposite of the typical story. So often you hear of a bigger company acquiring a smaller one - it is quite the reverse in this case.”

Since 1985, the Tesseract Books imprint has focused on the best work Canadian speculative fiction authors have to offer. Tesseract Books publishes short story anthologies, novels and translations of French Canadian works.

“The commitment to maintaining and expanding the Tesseract imprint as the premiere voice of Canadian speculative fiction remains unchanged,” says Hades. “The purchase of Tesseract Books Ltd. enables us to continue the production of quality speculative fiction with a ‘Canadian twist’. Our EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing imprint will focus on the introduction of full length works by North American and international authors such as Australia’s K. A. Bedford and New Zealand's Till Noever. It’s the best of all worlds for authors and readers alike.”

“I knew from the beginning that both Tesseract and EDGE share an absolute commitment to publishing excellence. We are on the same page. That’s one of the reasons why this acquisition works,” says Hades.

Award winning authors Candas Jane Dorsey and Timothy J. Anderson will continue to be involved with the Tesseract imprint as authors and editors. They join EDGE’s energetic management team of professionals who are dedicated to “encouraging, publishing, and promoting thought-provoking science fiction and fantasy literature”.

EDGE and TESSERACT are imprints of Hades Publications Inc.
