"I was born and raised in Iowa, trained as a registered nurse, have farmed with a team of draft horses while living in 'rural splendor' (without running water and central heat) and traveled the globe. I'm an only child who soon realized the world did not revolve around me. My first story was based on a popular TV series (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) which should give you a clue to my age. After a number of careers and a stint in Hong Kong, I finally decided to do what I've always wanted to do: write. My books have met
with success and now I write full time.” — Jana G. Oliver
Jana Oliver is an Iowa native who now enjoys the sunny winters in Georgia. She's been a nurse, a travel agent, farmed with draft horses and lived in Hong Kong. Once the writing virus caught up with her, it hasn't let loose since.
"It was like flipping a switch," Oliver explained. "I went from not writing anything to absolutely consumed by the need to put the stories on paper." She admits her characters run her like a top. "They wake me in the middle of the night just to tell me about some scene, though I'd much rather remain asleep. I draw the line at actually getting out of bed. Then they'd never leave me alone."
Jana spends her spare time digging through old books, squinting at vintage maps and trudging the back alleys of London's East End. "As someone from the twentieth century, it's very difficult to think like a Victorian, but I try to get as close as possible," Oliver says. "Jack the Ripper might be one of the most notable persons in Victorian history, but there was so much more going on. I really enjoy researching the political intrigues and the personal scandals from that time period. They make great book fodder."
A lover of single malt scotch and nearly all things Victorian, Jana lives in Atlanta with her husband and two cats, Midnight and Odds-Bobkin.
