Delve into literature’s shadowy side!
The Tesseracts Series
A Canadian literary legacy
These fourteen volumes showcase
237 Canadian authors, editors and translators
for a total of 373 contributions
that include short stories, poetry and novellas
What Makes The Tesseracts Series Special?
- It has history - Tesseracts One was edited by Judith Merril 24 years ago.
- Each volume is compiled by a team of different editors - which keeps the collections fresh, new and ever changing.
- Some of Canada's most famous authors have contributed their work to the Tesseracts series (eg. Robert J. Sawyer, Élisabeth Vonarburg, and Margaret Atwood.)
- As of June 3, 2009: 237 Canadian authors, editors and translators (and 367 short stories and poems, 7 novellas) have contributed to the Tesseracts Series.
- The series has won a mumber of awards. The most recent of which was an Aurora for Tesseracts Nine, edited by Nalo Hopkinson and Geoff Ryman.
If you are just discovering the Tesseracts Series for the first time, or reacquainting yourself with this Canadian literary legacy here are some key points to remember:
Teams of the best editors:
Each year EDGE Science Fiction and Fantasy Publishing chooses a team of editors from among the best of Canada’s writers, publishers and critics to select innovative and futuristic short fiction and poetry from the leaders and emerging voices in Canadian speculative fiction.
Award Winners:
Various volumes in the series have won awards, including Tesseracts Nine, edited by Nalo Hopkinson and Geoff Ryman, which won the Aurora award for Best Work (other) in 2006.
It all began 24 years ago:
The first Tesseracts collection was edited by the legendary Judith Merril, Tesseracts featured short stories and poetry by a number of different Canadian SF writers including fiction by Élisabeth Vonarburg and Hugo and Nebula award winning authors Spider Robinson, and William Gibson.
14 books in a 13 book series:
As of June 3, 2009, fourteen volumes bearing the Tesseracts title have been published. Why are there 14 books in a 13 book series? Number 14 is actually Tesseracts Q — a charming collection of short works from Quebec’s finest speculative fiction writers — all translated into English.
From unknown to known … Tesseracts features the best:
Many of Canada’s best known writers have contributed in one or more Tesseracts collection, either as writers or as editors. A few names you might recognize include Robert J. Sawyer, Margaret Atwood, and the afore mentioned international award winning Élisabeth Vonarburg and Hugo and Nebula award winning authors Spider Robinson, and William Gibson – just to name a few.
