The Chalice of Life
Thalas —
a world on the brink of civil war.
The Carotian Union —
a nascent confederation of planets at the edge of destruction.
Eliander —
a prince lost millennia ago to the flow of normal space-time.
On a world where both magic and technology function, seven extraordinay souls set out on the Quest of the Lost Prince.
Passionate mystics, honest thieves, and a silver-tongued bard with a penchant for instigating barroom brawls: what the Carotian goddess Minissa was thinking when she selected them, she alone knows.
Inconceivable dangers await them around every turn on worlds they never knew existed. But such trivialities never deter a band of true heroes...
Karen Webb
Karen likes to say she is your worst nightmare: a dance critic who
thinks she can choreograph. Now, as a fantasy author, she can also say
that she is your worst nightmare: a fantasy fan who thinks she can
write. She has, in fact, wanted to write, dance, and horeograph since
before she could walk and talk. She wrote her first novel, intended as a
possible movie idea for the singing group the Monkees, when she was in
eighth grade.
Marrying a musician meant someone had to earn some money,
though, so she detoured off into a career in nursing and got as far as a
nurse practitioner/certified nurse-midwife degree before some health
issued made her re-evaluate the direction in which her life was going.
She is known nationally as one of the sharpest dance critics ever to put
pen to paper and is happy finally to be sharing her fantasy world of
Caros with the public. In their 40's, she and her husband Paul adopted a
newborn boy; they like to think they were simultaneously adopted by
Zayne's birth family.
Her dream of owning a purebred Persian or Rag Doll
cat keeps getting interrupted by the family finding needy kittens either
at the local animal shelter or in their garage. The three humans and
three felines currently in the home dream constantly of a world at peace
where people are judged "not by the color of their skin but by the
content of their character." And - oh, boy! - does that dream of
cooperation and a world at peace influence her writing! That and the
spiritual texture she likes to include truly make her work "fantasy for
the new millennium!"
