The Chalice of Life

Thalas —
a world on the brink of civil war.
The Carotian Union —
a nascent confederation of planets at the edge of destruction.
Eliander —
a prince lost millennia ago to the flow of normal space-time.

On a world where both magic and technology function, seven extraordinay souls set out on the Quest of the Lost Prince.

Passionate mystics, honest thieves, and a silver-tongued bard with a penchant for instigating barroom brawls: what the Carotian goddess Minissa was thinking when she selected them, she alone knows.

Inconceivable dangers await them around every turn on worlds they never knew existed. But such trivialities never deter a band of true heroes...

Karen Webb

Karen likes to say she is your worst nightmare: a dance critic who thinks she can choreograph. Now, as a fantasy author, she can also say that she is your worst nightmare: a fantasy fan who thinks she can write. She has, in fact, wanted to write, dance, and horeograph since before she could walk and talk. She wrote her first novel, intended as a possible movie idea for the singing group the Monkees, when she was in eighth grade.

Marrying a musician meant someone had to earn some money, though, so she detoured off into a career in nursing and got as far as a nurse practitioner/certified nurse-midwife degree before some health issued made her re-evaluate the direction in which her life was going.

She is known nationally as one of the sharpest dance critics ever to put pen to paper and is happy finally to be sharing her fantasy world of Caros with the public. In their 40's, she and her husband Paul adopted a newborn boy; they like to think they were simultaneously adopted by Zayne's birth family.

Her dream of owning a purebred Persian or Rag Doll cat keeps getting interrupted by the family finding needy kittens either at the local animal shelter or in their garage. The three humans and three felines currently in the home dream constantly of a world at peace where people are judged "not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." And - oh, boy! - does that dream of cooperation and a world at peace influence her writing! That and the spiritual texture she likes to include truly make her work "fantasy for the new millennium!"

"Let us follow seven brave souls as they travel through history for The Chalice of Life. Karen Anne Webb has brought these seven characters to life through her great skill by mixing together a little technology along with magic, dragons, and a quest for royalty. This intriguing book opened up several doors into danger and romance. As the plot thickened the intrigue deepened, causing the puzzle pieces to fall into place.
As the quest for the prince developes further into the story, will the prince be found, or will he be lost in history? Trying to find out led me through each chapter and page like a scroll unrolling into ancient history for the seven travelers. The excitement of wanting to know what role the chalice played for the travelers kept me reading. " - Wanda Maynard, Simegen.com

"This book is sure to appeal to lovers of Tolkien. The author creates an interesting universe complete with different societies and belief system. This story will not disappoint readers who like to discover different worlds and people." — Kim Rapier, Midwest Book Review
